Priene Ancient City
Your first major visit is Priene, one of the finest surviving examples of ancient Greek urban planning.
Located on the slopes of Mount Mycale, Priene once overlooked the Aegean Sea and the ancient Meander River valley.
The city is particularly famous for its carefully designed street system based on the Hippodamian grid plan.
During your visit, explore important remains including the Temple of Athena, the ancient theatre, residential areas, public buildings and the agora.
The elevated position of Priene also provides impressive views across the surrounding landscape.
Miletus Ancient City
Continue to Miletus, one of the most influential cities of the ancient Greek world.
Miletus was once a prosperous maritime centre and played an important role in trade, science, philosophy and the establishment of colonies throughout the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions.
The city is closely associated with important ancient thinkers, including Thales of Miletus.
One of the most impressive structures remaining today is the enormous ancient theatre, which reflects the scale and importance of the city during antiquity.
Your guide will explain how changes in the coastline and the silting of the Meander River gradually transformed this once-important harbour city.
Lunch Break
During the tour, time will be provided for a lunch break at a suitable local restaurant.
Your guide can assist with choosing a restaurant according to the day's route and your preferences.
Lunch and beverages are not included unless otherwise stated in your reservation.
Didyma – Temple of Apollo
The final major archaeological visit of the day is Didyma, home to the extraordinary Temple of Apollo.
Didyma was one of the most important religious sanctuaries and oracle centres of the ancient world.
The enormous Temple of Apollo was designed on a monumental scale and remains one of the most impressive examples of ancient Greek sacred architecture in western Türkiye.
Walk among the massive columns and architectural remains while your guide explains the importance of the sanctuary, its oracle and its historical relationship with nearby Miletus.
Although the temple was never fully completed, its surviving remains reveal the extraordinary ambition of its ancient builders.
